# Change order

**A mid-project price increase — on a hardwood job, most often for substrate conditions that a proper assessment would have found before quoting.**

Substrate correction discovered mid-job is the single most common source of change orders on a hardwood project, and it is the one most often avoidable.

The presence of open-ended change-order language in a contract is a statement about when the contractor intends to discover problems.
