# Progressive grits

**Working through abrasives from coarse to fine in sequence, with the perimeter matching the field at every step.**

The belt sander’s standard progression is 36 → 60 → 80/100. The edger follows the same sequence rather than running ahead of it.

Skipping a grit leaves scratches the next abrasive is too fine to remove, and those scratches become visible the moment finish goes on.
