Cross-ply core

The layered substructure of engineered flooring, with each layer oriented at 90° to the one beside it.

Cross-ply construction is what makes engineered flooring dimensionally stable. Each layer’s tendency to move across its own grain is resisted by the layer bonded to it at a right angle.

It is the single technical reason engineered is specified over concrete slabs, in condominiums and above radiant heat.
